It’s been about a month since I first launched Hello Tegan.
Today I am going to share with you the in’s and out’s of my first month blogging and share with you the real and raw truth when it comes to being a brand new blogger.

My First Month Blogging – The Ugly Side
If you haven’t read my background story, you can click here and have a read. You’ll notice that this post was originally published in August 23rd 2018, however, I did not launch Hello Tegan until October 2018.
If you have read my background story, you will know that this is not the first blog that I have started.
There is a good truth and reason as to why I shut down my other blog and that is because I had never felt like I was getting anywhere with them and I had felt so discouraged by the results that I was seeing and I know many other bloggers would have probably felt the same when they first started their blogs.
I had started two blogs within less than a year of each other circulating around money and finance, because that is what I thought I had a passion to talk about and yes, I do like to talk about money and finance, but it’s not something I am passionate to talk about.
I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to talk about… I was lost!
What do I love to talk about? Well, a lot of things! At the time I thought talking about money finance was something I could talk about day in and day out when in actual fact I felt so limited and so disheartened to even blog at all.
If you find something that you are truly passionate about and could spend days on end writing about, I say go for it! Don’t hold back!
I am glad I found what I want to write about and I know I could write days on end about lifestyle advice and blogging advice and I actually feel happy and have a positive vibe to write.
Starting and stopping, again and again
My main problem is starting and stopping again and again. Another problem was wanting to make my blog look perfect and make everything look and be perfect. This is another reason why I had started many blogs in the first place.
If you have this thought in your head, you probably wont launch your blog for months and months to come. Sometimes you gotta bite the bullet and just LAUNCH and I wish I was given this advice earlier.
There is no better time to launch than NOW!!!
What happened during the month of October for Hello Tegan?
I launched – woohoo!!! I launched with 10 blog posts up and ready to go. I actually ended up launching Hello Tegan on my Instagram account, which I barely use – but hopefully will start utilizing a lil’ more very soon.
I am not going to show you my tens of thousands of views, because that’s just not what happened and I think by sharing this progress from the very beginning, is super important and will encourage you to keep on going with your own blogging journey.
Here’s a snapshot from my Google Analytics in October.
How many page views did I bring during the month of October? Well, truth be told – not even 100! and that is totally okay! I did feel a little sad at first, because I felt like I had put my all into creating some pretty good content and unfortunately only had crickets!
Some of my pages views came from Pinterest and others came from Facebook.
I had only just started utilizing Pinterest to help grow my blog and so far, it has been pretty slow. I am positive I will get there in the end!
I am in the midst of taking Carly Campbell’s course Pinteresting Strategies and have been using her strategies to help build my blog – I took down seven pages of notes from her course! In conjunction of Pinteresting Strategies, I am also taking EllDuclos’ course called Pinterest with Ell.
I could pin more than I do, which is something I do plan on working on. I am also working on creating brand new, fresh pins and trying out new keywords for each of my blog posts and pinning those to all relevant boards.
Let’s see how we go in November!
Yes, you’ve guessed it $0.
I am not worried about earning income from this blog just yet, as I am more focused on actually building Hello Tegan and getting the right kind of traffic.
However, I would love, love, love to turn my blog into a full-time business. I honestly can feel myself growing this blog and turning it into something that will bloom and I hope you can come along for that journey too.
I do hope to expand the income section of my blogging progress though.
Tailwind Tribes – I decided to bite the bullet and purchase the unlimited power up for Tailwind Tribes. I really do want to start utilizing Tailwind Tribes to the max and see how it goes. Currently I am paying $44.99USD per month to have access to unlimited tribes and monthly submissions.
So far, I have joined 10 tribes and have only recently started sharing my content to those tribes.
Hosting – I do have my blog hosted with Siteground, however, I did prepay a years worth of hosting.
So far, those are all of my blogging expenses for the month of October.
Blogging Goals for November
- Increase traffic to my blog. Hopefully during the month of November I can increase my traffic to at least 1,000 page views, that would super fantastic. I will continue to take Carly’s and Ell’s Pinterest courses to help boost my traffic.
- Publish at least one/two blog posts per week. So far, I’ve only been posting one blog post per week and it seems to be working well for me. If I can post an additional blog post each week, it would be even better or at least write and schedule some posts in advance.
- Continue to work on my Pinterest game. I am currently manually pinning on Pinterest and only scheduling other people’s content on Tailwind from Tailwind Tribes.
- Continue to do keyword research for each blog post and create posts around those keywords.
- Create eye catching and click-worthy pins and additional pins for all posts.
I have read that a lot of people quit blogging because they aren’t seeing results right away or find that it is just too much. YES! That is certainly true, you won’t see results straight away! Heck, I am living and breathing proof of this.
I had emailed Carly Campbell and told her I would love to make a full-time business from blog. She advised that blogging is a slow burn and I can totally understand where she is coming from and honestly, I think that is another reason why I had shut down all of my other blogs.
Consistency! I have read numerous posts/email newsletters etc…. that if you want to have a successful blog, you need to be consistent. Consistency is one thing that I do struggle with because there’s always something else that needs to be done (non-blogging wise). If you aren’t consistent then you won’t see results.
You need to put in the work to see results!
I remember with my older blogs that I was wondering why I was not seeing what I wanted to see and that’s because I was not putting in enough work and I was trying to make sure everything was perfect. You can strive on perfection for as long as you want, but if you don’t start biting the bullet you won’t see any results or changes and this is a lesson that I am now starting to learn.
Try your very best and keep on going!
I hope you’ll continue to come along with me on my blogging journey, cause I sure am excited to share everything with you.
