Did you know you could make money just by blogging? Yes, it’s true you can! But how? You may ask! In this post, I am going to show you how I made my first $100 blogging.

I started Hello Tegan Blog in October 2018 and received 58 page views for that month and made zero income and in my second month blogging I made a total of $3.00 (which happened to be the best $3.00 ever).

As you’re reading this post I am into my fourth month of blogging.

You can read my blog progress reports by clicking here. I aim to make these reports as insightful as possible.

Before I started blogging I had no idea you could make money from your blog. I thought you could make income by being a YouTuber or Social Media Influencer – but no, there are actually so many other ways to make money online.

So, if YouTube isn’t for you or you don’t want to be a Social Media Influencer, perhaps starting a blog is the way for you!

Did you know starting a blog is incredibly inexpensive? Yes! You don’t need hundreds of dollars to start a blog. In fact, you can start your own blog for as little as $3.95 per month! Crazy cheap, right? My friends at Siteground offer hosting packages at this price – you can check their prices and find out which hosting packages suits you right here.

How I Made My First $100 Blogging

Before I begin, making money online doesn’t happen overnight – unless, you’re just incredibly lucky and know exactly what you’re doing from day one! In the grand scheme of things – you have to work for it and sometimes that work can take months.

Working for your first dollar online is not easy and a lot of people give up because they’re not getting results straight away. Don’t give up! Remember, if you want really want something in life, you have to work hard for it – especially when it comes to the blogging world and don’t give up halfway. I’ve given up half way many, many times and it did not get me anywhere. Keep on going! You got this!

Read and research

Sometimes reading and researching information can be incredibly overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to take in everything at once. Taking a lot of notes can really help glue things together and make more sense in your head. Sure, you can read someone else’s blog post and find it insightful, but actually taking tips, noting and applying them to your own blog is another thing.

I read many other bloggers posts about how they made their first $100 blogging and I also read a lot of income reports too (and I do mean a lot). I read their tips and advice on how they make money through their blog and it truly helped.

Invest in your blog

If you truly want to make money from your blog, I definitely recommend investing in it. If you don’t invest in your blog AND yourself you may not see results.

Here are 10 must-have investments for your blog.

One investment I do recommend is to self-host your blog, right from the start. As mentioned above you can purchase hosting for as little as $3.95 per month. My blog is hosted with Siteground and they are truly wonderful. I wouldn’t recommend any other hosting company! Click here to check out Siteground and their super affordable hosting packages. It’s well worth your dollar and they are seriously on the ball with any question or query you have!

I also decided to invest in two wonderful courses – Pinterest with Ell and Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing.

These two courses really do go hand in hand with each other and I do believe that they helped immensely.

Pinterest with Ell teaches you everything you need to know about Pinterest. Pinterest is my number source of traffic and I couldn’t thank it enough. The course is only $32 – which is extremely affordable, especially for the amount of information and actionable tips you get in this course. Click here to check it out for yourself.

Another course that really did help when making my first affiliate sale was Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing. This course breaks down everything you need to know about affiliate marketing and it is the number one course I recommend if you want to make money by blogging. The investment is $197 or two payments of $105. If you put the effort in from this course, you will definitely see results. Click here to check out Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing.

Affiliate marketing

I made my first $100 through affiliate marketing and that is why I do recommend taking Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing. Sure, you can totally figure out all this stuff on your own – but it may take you a lot longer than necessary and with added fluff, you don’t need.  Remember, if you want to see results you have to be willing to put in the effort. No, this course will not teach you how to make money quickly, it will teach you the exacts ways to make money using actionable tips to apply to your blog right away.

If you don’t have your own products to sell, affiliate marketing is a great way to start making money online.

Write with value and purpose

Before I started Hello Tegan, I had a few other blogs and none of them seemed to be getting anywhere and essentially I threw those blogs away. I was only writing content just to get content out there, it didn’t really have any meaning or purpose. I just wanted to make my blog look full. I was afraid that if I didn’t have a set number of posts on my blog, that nobody would want to read it and would click away.

That’s not true.

The five posts that you’ve written with value and purpose are better than the ten posts that you’ve written just because you had to get a post out there.

Keep the intention of writing content that will create value and purpose for your reader. What are they gaining from your post to make it worth their while? You shouldn’t have to write sloppy content – you’re so much better than that.

If you’re going to want to make money from your blog, you will really want to consider this. Don’t write a post with no value or purpose and slap an affiliate link on it thinking you’re going to make a buck from it. Your reader will know and see that!

Promote things you actually LOVE

If you want to make money by promoting other people’s products or courses – please make sure you actually love that product! There’s absolutely no point in writing about products that you don’t love or that have not worked for you in order to make money.

I wrote How I Made My First Affiliate Sale in Less Than 24 Hours and The $32 Pinterest E-Course That Helped Boost My Blog Traffic in order to show my results and help readers and that it is very possible to make an affiliate sale in 24 hours and grow your blog traffic without having to shell out a lot of money for a good course. I made 9 sales from just one post alone!

If you do have your own products, love your products with a passion! If you create a product just to make money then there’s really no point? I currently do not have any products or courses to sell right now, but I have so many awesome and wonderful ideas in mind that I know many people would love and feel that would benefit them in every way possible!

Be authentic and REAL

When I am writing a new post and promote products that I’m an affiliate with, I really do try and be authentic and real as possible. I don’t want to make money by not being real to my readers!

Promote, promote & promote!

Once I’ve finished reading, editing and going through everything I need to do before hitting publish – I create at least two pins to promote on Pinterest and about a week or so later I create two more pins for that post, using different wording.

If you want to get your blog out there – you’re going to need to promote and market it – like, A LOT! Pinterest with Ell and Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing also teaches you this.

Promote your blog post using Pinterest, Facebook and any other Social Media outlets that you use. I generally stick to Pinterest, but it does not hurt to use other outlets too!

I definitely do recommend creating more than one pin for each post and saying how each post goes. Create different style pins, change the wording and see which one does better.
